BKLIST v1.0
(C)opyright 1990
Karshedan Software
Written by:
Brandon Kostolni
OVERVIEW:
BKLIST is a utility to allow conversion of the national BBS
listings to a data file format. This new format allows for near instantaneous
viewing of BBS entries by state, area code, and text searches.
BKLIST will read in either The List or Darwin's national listing
of BBS'. It will convert these text files into data files by area code. It
will also create an index of these area codes.
You will need approximately 200k of additional disk space to use
the national listing feature.
OPERATION:
All you need to do is type BKLIST at the DOS prompt to get BKLIST
started. The program will ask you for a file name to convert. You must
now enter the complete path and filename of the listing you wish to convert.
NOTE: If the listing is in the current directory, you need not enter a complete
path when prompted for a file name.
The program will then check for validity of the file name you entered.
If it does not exist, you will be prompted to re-enter a valid name.
BKLIST then attempts to recognize the type of listing you have entered.
If it cannot, you will be prompted to enter what type of listing you are
converting (Note: Only The List and Darwin's list are currently supported).
If this is a first run of the program, BKLIST will simply add each
national listing entry to a corresponding data file.
On the second run (and all subsequent runs), BKLIST will append entries
to the existing data files, creating new files only if an area code does not
currently exist. Subsequent runs of the program last longer, since the program
does a recursive checking of the data file to verify that an entry does not
exist already. If it does exist, the BBS entry is not added to the data file.
In this way, you can update your data file listings monthly when the new
national lists are released.
BKLIST will update the screen continuosly, so you can monitor the
progress of the program.
FUTURE ADDITIONS:
- Optimization of the BKLIST utility to increase speed.
- Addition of entry checking to delete BBS listings not in
the current release of the monthly BBS lists.
- Full context sensitive help available within the program.
